Born in
Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) in 1953, Monika immigrated to
Australia in 1971, marrying her husband Gerno who migrated
from Germany as a nine-year old with his parents in 1954.
Monika and Gerno have three adult children. To earn some
pocket money, Monika took on her first job in the hospitality
industry. This was in the kitchen of the German Club in
Adelaide and lasted for some 10 years. Most of that time was
spent in the kitchen because as Monika explains “German
cooking is what I know best.”
Now retired and with a love of people and music, Monika felt
it was only natural she do her bit for the German community in
SA by entertaining them through the German Voice. This was
made possible through the Multi-Cultural Radio Station 5
EBI-FM. What Monika likes most about living in Australia is
the Mediterranean style weather, living close to the ocean and
the clear blue sky. She now describes life with her husband as
great. |
